Mood: waiting for wind
6th June 2007
Windsurfing: Pevensey Bay
Wind Direction: NE
Wind Stength: F4
Surf / Sea State: Flat with small wavelets
Air Temperature: warm
Sea Temperature: fine
Weather: bright, sunny & windy
Max Speed:
Distance Covered:

Sneaky afterworker, despite reports from Eastbourne that the wind was cr*p and not worth the trip .... Got to Pevensey to find Rich (USurf) getting changed and Basher had already gone .... Rich offered me his kit which was still rigged up, so jumped into a shorty and my nitrous shorts and went for it ....

Rich had been on his Exocet S-Cross 140 & a Tushy 7.5m T-bird so that was my ride sorted with minimal fuss or time wasted.

Floated out to the windline approx 50yds out and spent a cheeky hour planing out and back with the occassional airtime to break the routine. Even managed some swim time while tweaking boom height etc to suit and getting a feel for the kit.

I can see why lots of people like the T-bird, though personally I've tasted better fruits. To me it felt like it offered pull, with apparent feeling of power low down, but i feel that this may be where the centre of effort moved about as wind speed varied. For me the stability of the Gaastras & Prydes I've used is much preferred feel .... might not feel as powerful to many, but the fact that the speed you travel without the wrestling match more than compensates for the lack of apparent power. That said, it had been rigged with minimal downhaul and negative outhaul to exploit it 'tuneability'. I'll be letting Rich try my Remedy 7.4m next time were on that size kit, so he can offer me his honest opinion as a long term tushy rider. Enlightenment is imminent.

The board was a different matter, it was soft feeling over any chop and also got up and planing with minimal fuss, and seemed to go pretty quick .... I'd have liked to try it with one of my rigs .... and i expect it would have gone even faster

Big thanks to Rich for the loaned ride, it was really cool to just hop into a shorty and grab ready rigged kit and hit the water .... if I'd escaped earlier I'd have got to try my new Rocket 125 & 7.4m Remedy (or the 8.0m GTX), and maybe even seen the lesser spotted Hyper-Basher blasting too ...

Another day Manta Ray ....
